Meet The Coach:
Hi, I’m Bob, and I’m a Social Psychologist.
As a Social Psychologist I study the human social interactions of behavior and thought, and examine personality, interpersonal relationships, and group behavior, and how life experiences influence our perceptions of self and others.
So…what the fuck does that mean?
It means I do a lot of advisory work (coaching, mentoring, consulting) with men and women on their personal and professional development and well-being at home and at work.
It means I do a lot of “decoding” (translating, interpreting, deciphering) the dialogue we have with ourselves and others in our everyday human social interactions. Which includes decrypting our Life Positions -- how we feel about ourselves and how we feel about others -- and the life games we use to rationalize, justify, and defend our feelings, our actions, our behaviors toward reinforcing and maintaining those life positions.
I hold a BA in Social Science and an MA in Sociology with a Concentration in Social Psychology. I have over 30 years experience in the corporate business environment, and I’m a former executive of Mattel. I have over 20 years training and development experience as a coach, mentor, and consultant having served a wide range of clients with their personal and professional development in multiple industry sectors.
So, let's start here. Pretty sure you’ve already been working toward trying to figure out your personal and professional intentions in life and in work. You’ve either engaged in some reading, journaling, introspection, yoga, meditation, retreats, course-work, or some combination of the above. And, you are completely ready and committed to making important changes in you and your life course.
“Work with a seasoned coach to activate and empower your best attributes and realize your greatest potential!”
One-on-One Coaching: Personal and Professional Development
Personal Development Coaching
Personal Development Coaching aims to help you reach a deeper understanding of yourself and your character strengths, and to use that knowledge for optimal growth. Character strengths knowledge, exploration, and use can play an important role in boosting happiness, managing relationship conflicts, setting up personal goals at work, handling life stressors, or searching for deeper meaning in life.
This type of 1-on-1 coaching is intended to be positive in focus, centered on you, empowering, energizing, and practical. You will work with a seasoned character strengths expert to explore your strengths, goals, and other key elements in psychology to find greater well-being.
Professional Development Coaching
Professional Development Coaching is focused on leveraging character strengths to help you best serve your clients, students, or employees. This may involve case consultation in which the coach offers opinions and ideas regarding your work with a specific client (individual or group). It may involve questions and answers in which you and your coach wrestle with a variety of questions you have about applying character strengths and other elements of psychology.
Other common examples include discussing optimal strengths interventions for a workshop or class you are planning to lead, being a strengths “sounding board” for a consultation you are offering, or reviewing outlines and ideas of strengths projects you are working on. The goal is to help you not only understand optimal strengths applications but to enable you to thrive in doing so.
Coaching may address, for example, your personal projects, life balance and stressors, the development of well-being, improving your relationships or health, job performance, personal satisfaction and meaning, or your strengths-based approach with your clients, students, employees, or your own family. Coaching focuses on your character strengths (and other strengths), and may involve personal strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, and other goal-achievement strategies.
These coaching packages will be offered/delivered virtually through Zoom.
Presentation of Self - Life Script Exploration
Life scripts have a deep and subconscious effect on how we live our lives. They affect the decisions we make and control what we think we should do and should not do. They shape our self-image and our presentation of self in everyday life. We often have no idea that we’ve constructed these scripts or where they come from, but nevertheless they are powerful and can impose destructive and unnecessary restrictions on our choices throuhout life. Once this plan or life script is made, it influences the whole course of our life.
In shaping our image, we all wear "masks" of one kind or another...and those masks represent the false emotions a person might "wear" in front of other people. Masking is hiding your authentic self; the outward appearance of the mask does not match the true inner-emotions that are beneath it, and masking behavior obscures your natural personality. We each have a "front-stage persona" and a "back-stage persona" as part of our Life Script. The coaching sessions below explore life scripts and masking, and how to be consciously aware of them with the goal of developing positive, prosocial counterscripts.
“When you say ‘Yes’ to others, make sure you are not saying ‘No’ to yourself, and that you are not being caught up in a game for someone else’s benefit.”
“This is an extraordinary journey that starts within! Are you ready to pivot to the next level…”

Why Do You Say "Yes", When You Want To Say "No"... and When You Say "No" Why Do You Feel Guilty!
Overview:
Most of the time we say “yes” because we think or feel it's the right thing to do. But forcing ourselves to do things that we don’t have the time, energy, or money to do, that doesn’t align with our values or priorities, or that we simply don’t want to do, leads to issues and problems in our lives both at home and in the workplace.
What happens when you say Yes, but really want to say No:
You think no one else will do it, so you think you have to
You want people to think you’re a nice person or a good team player
You feel resentful, angry or mad
You feel unappreciated
Your relationship with the other person or group is strained
You’re overworked and overtired
You don’t have time and resources for your goals, priorities, or you
Learning to say “No” starts with: Authenticity and Mindful Communication
This two (2) hour coaching session focuses on the latest Values In Action (VIA) research and trends in character strength leadership, and identifying the importance authenticity and mindful communication has or plays in leadership for managers and supervisors.
Through the lens of authenticity, you will gain an understanding of the force this character strength has on personal well-being and leadership performance, the hurdles and barriers/force-fields that inhibit people from being their authentic selves and discover a model to identify and address inauthentic performances.
This coaching session also focuses on how mindfulness and character strengths practices can enhance your everyday communications to create more meaningful experiences and deeper connections with others. In this session, you will learn how to actively bring forth proactive mindful listening and speaking communication skills and strategies, and not be drawn into dysfunctional social interactions and power games which manipulate you into saying “Yes”, when you want to say “No”.
With your personalized Character Strengths Report, you will discover how to activate your mindfulness skills to empower greater interpersonal awareness and action toward:
enhancing well-being
managing problems
improving relationships
finding personal and professional success

In and Out of The Garbage Can... "I'm Ok - I'm Not Ok!" - Overview
This coaching session is designed to identify which Life Position you are in and how to stay out of the "Garbage Can" with family, friends, colleagues, and co-workers.
Life Positions are a core concept that reflects one's attitudes and feelings toward themselves and others. There are four basic life positions, each representing a different combination of self-perception and the perception of others. The positions are:
"I'm OK – You're OK" (positive toward self and others)
"I'm OK – You're Not OK" (positive toward self, negative toward others)
"I'm Not OK – You're OK" (negative toward self, positive toward others)
"I'm Not OK – You're Not OK" (negative toward self and others)
Life Positions are the basic beliefs and feelings that we hold about ourselves and others, and which are used to justify our decisions and behaviors.
Our Life Positions are shaped by our early life experiences, and these positions consist of whether we view ourselves and others as “OK” or “not OK”.
Switching back and forth from "Okness" to "Not Okness", in terms of how you feel about yourself and how you feel about others, is likened to being "in and out of the garbage can" and creates problematic social interaction with others.
Coaching Session Overview: Social Emotional Intelligence
Engaging with others requires the application of self-regulation of social and emotional intelligence. Social Emotional Intelligence (SEI) is the ability to know oneself and to know others, to manage both your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you. There are five key elements to SEI: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. In this coaching session, you will learn what the character strength of Social Emotional Intelligence is, how to apply it, and how to avoid communication traps and going "in and out of the garbage can". Utilizing presentations and engaging hands-on skill/practice, these sessions will empower you to be more effective in your communications with others and will help you increase your SEI awareness and leverage social emotional intelligence character strengths effectively.
Objectives:
Develop knowledge and competency for understanding the five stages of social emotional intelligence and employ clear definitions and relevance of each stage
Discuss and introduce concepts of Social Emotional Intelligence at the personal individual level and how this can be applied to all levels of social interaction inside and outside the workplace.
Gain a greater understanding of how personal behaviors and character strength communication styles affect workplace interactions. Discuss various communication styles and how to build skills through more effective collaboration.
Identify ways to improve Social Emotional Intelligence in the workplace overall, and learn ways to avoid the most common and most painful mistakes around underuse and overuse of social emotional intelligence.
